Our Passion And Priorities

The love of basketball and the support of our local players is on everyone’s minds. It inspires hundreds of people from our communities to be in attendance at the big game – even though it is many miles away!

We determine to show our support by finding a way to be at our team’s game. Accomplishing this goal requires planning, communicating, sharing expenses, making sacrifices, overcoming obstacles, and refusing to give up! It is no small challenge to line up transportation, find a place to stay, and then to stand in line for hours to guarantee a seat (that doesn’t have someone else’s blanket reserving it). Yet these obstacles are willingly overcome because being at the game is a passion, and therefore, getting to the game is a priority. This is a great example of what can be accomplished when something or someone is very meaningful to us.

What would our lives would look like if we applied this same kind of effort in our pursuit of God? What if we possessed this same passion to be in God’s presence? Imagine what we would choose to overcome in God’s power if our passion was to fulfill our Savior’s priorities.

We make many excuses about not praying, reading God’s Word, and not going to church…

“No time.”

“No transportation.”

“Too tired.”

These excuses are really just code for not making God a priority.

Sometimes it is hard to be honest with ourselves. Our friends and family usually know what we are really excited about. But what does God (who looks into our hearts) know us to be passionate about?

The relationship that God desires us to have with Him is of greater value than anything imaginable. When God’s glory becomes our passion and when our priorities are aligned with His priorities, we will allow nothing to stop us in our pursuit of Him.

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33
